Decent Homes Standard

The Decent Homes Standard is a measure of general housing conditions. It was introduced by the Government in 2000 and initially only applied to Social Housing. It forms a minimum standard that all social housing should meet by 2010 and which can be measured consistently across all social housing stock.

In 2002, the Decent Homes Standard was extended to include the private sector which the focus on reducing the proportion of 'vulnerable' households living in non-decent homes.
